Laser Surgery

Laser surgery is any surgery which uses lasers to perform liposuction, treat various skin conditions, remove tattoos or produce healthier, younger-looking skin. As laser technology continues to improve, more and more people are opting for laser treatments to get the anti-aging effects they desire. Lasers have the power to smooth away fine lines, tighten sagging skin and improve skin texture without the cost, risks and downtime of conventional surgery. Facial laser surgery has many names, including laser resurfacing, lasabrasion, wrinkle lasering, and laser peels.

Laser Stimulates Collagen Growth

Fine lines and wrinkles form when a structural breakdown occurs inside the skin. As skin ages, it produces less collagen, the protein that keeps it looking young and taut. At the same time, skin increases its production of collagenase, an enzyme that breaks down the existing collagen in the skin. Laser surgery treatments effectively stimulate the growth of new collagen by combating the effects of collagenase. The laser hits the skin and vaporizes the water molecules in skin cells. The surrounding tissue becomes damaged, so skin produces more collagen and effectively fills in existing wrinkles.

There are numerous types of lasers used in facial laser surgery, including CO2, erbium and pulsed dye lasers. The different lasers fall into two main categories: ablative and non-ablative. Non-ablative lasers go deep into the skin without affecting the top layers, while ablative lasers vaporize the top layer of the skin to remove damage. Therefore, use of non-ablative lasers in cosmetic procedures allows patients to enjoy zero downtime as the outermost layers of their skin remain unaffected. Ablative lasers are used to treat more pronounced wrinkles and skin conditions and generally do require a short recovery period, though still much smaller than the length of time associated with chemical peels or dermabrasion.

Laser surgery has also been very successful in tattoo removal. The laser surgeon aims the intense light energy of the laser directly at the pigment in the tattoo, which causes it to break up and be absorbed into the body by the immune system. Research has allowed the lasers to be able to directly target the pigment without affecting or touching any surrounding skin. Multiple treatments are typically needed, and different factors such as size, colors and when the tattoos was first applied play a role in how effective the removal is.

In recent years, lasers have also become the preferred method for surgeons performing liposuction to remove smaller pockets of fat in areas such as the buttocks, waist and upper arms. The lasers work by putting their energy onto the fat and causing it to melt and dissolve. The fat is then suctioned out of the body, and the liquid from the fat cells gets absorbed back into the body naturally. Because laser assisted liposuction is a much less invasive procedure than traditional liposuction, clients are able to recover much more quickly and have less bruising and swelling of the treated area.

The effectiveness of lasers in a variety of cosmetic procedures has revolutionized the cosmetic industry and laser surgeries have increased dramatically in recent years.

Skin Tyte Procedure

The Skin Tyte procedure utilizes broadband light to heat dermal collagen. The heat stimulates the bodys natural healing process, creating a firmer collagen base which leads to tighter skin. Skin Tyte is useful to treat acne scarring, Rosacea, fine facial lines, and sun damage. Sometimes combined with microdermabrasion, the Skin Tyte treatments consistently improve the appearance of skin with no downtime.
