Laser Skin Resurfacing
Laser Skin Resurfacing is a popular skin rejuvenation technique that helps combat the effects of aging, sun exposure and certain skin conditions. Ideal for people who want a glowing, radiant look, laser skin resurfacing can dramatically improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars and hyperpigmentation. It also works extremely well for removing age spots and minimizing pores.
Laser skin treatments have increased in the last few years, mainly because of the benefits associated with them as opposed to alternative methods of improving the appearance of facial skin. Treatments used in the past, such as chemical peels and dermabrasion, for example, required much longer recovery periods than laser skin resurfacing and were painful for clients. Skin resurfacing procedures have also become more popular because they cost much less than traditional cosmetic surgery, and dont carry the same risks associated with more invasive procedures.
There are two main types of lasers used for facial laser surgery, ablative lasers and non-ablative lasers. Ablative laser treatments require a short healing period since they affect the surface layer of skin, whereas non-ablative lasers only affect the underlying layers of skin and the downtime associated with them is much shorter. Most clients can immediately go back to their daily activities after a non-ablative laser skin treatment.
Non-ablative lasers are able to interact with deep layers of skin and are preferable for clients with darker skin as they are less likely to cause lightening of the skin. Non-ablative laser treatments are often used for evening out skin tone and improving texture. They work extremely well for removing fine lines, crows feet, tattoos, age spots, and minimizing frown lines and drooping eyelids.
Ablative laser treatments like the Sciton Profractional Laser, offer unique resurfacing opportunities. The treatment is minimally ablative, typically leaving the surrounding tissue unaffected. The Profractional Laser is used to treat sun spots, age spots, stretch marks, and acne scars with minimal recovery time.
Another ablative laser, the erbium laser, works well for treating fine lines, moderate facial wrinkles, light scarring and skin discolorations. The erbium laser works by producing energy that penetrates the skin and gets absorbed rapidly by the water in the skin cells. The water in the skin cells distributes the heat from the laser to the skin which removes the top layer of skin and increases the skins production of collagen.
