Laser Liposuction

Laser liposuction is a relatively-new procedure that uses laser technology to remove fat pockets from the body. Ideal for parts of the body that are most difficult to sculpt with diet and exercise, laser assisted liposuction is most commonly performed on localized pockets of fat in the upper arms, chin, waist, thighs, hips and buttocks.

All our laser assisted liposuction and body sculpting procedures are performed in at our laser surgery center in Wayzata near Minneapolis. First, we mark the fat to be removed, and numb the section of the body with a local anesthetic. The laser is then applied close to the skin, allowing it to focus its light energy on the targeted fat cells. The light energy causes the fat cells to dissolve and melt prior to being suctioned out. The bodys lymphatic system then drains fluid away from the fat cells, absorbing it into the rest of the body.

Laser Lipo VS Tradional Liposuction

Laser liposuction differs from traditional liposuction in that lasers are used to melt and dissolve fat cells prior to removal. The fat cells are then much easier to remove, and less bruising and swelling occurs. The laser also causes blood vessels in the treated area to coagulate together, which helps bruising and swelling as well. The bruising that does surface typically disappears within two to three days and our clients can return to their normal activities within twenty-four hours. Once the swelling goes away, the area looks tighter and smaller, and adjusts itself to the bodys natural shape within six to eight weeks.

Laser Lipo VS Tradional Liposuction

Other benefits from a laser assisted liposuction procedure as opposed to a traditional one include having a local anesthetic instead of a general one. Clients also enjoy a much quicker recovery afterward as there is a minimal incision into the body and they dont have to care for a heavily sutured area. Laser assisted liposuction is also relatively pain-free, although any mild discomfort can be treated with over-the-counter medication.

The cost of Laser Liposuction

Each treatment lasts around forty-five minutes. Since insurance companies consider laser liposuction a cosmetic procedure, they do not currently cover laser assisted procedures and consider it an out-of-pocket expense.

Smart Laser Lipo

We generally do not recommend laser liposuction for clients with diabetes, liver, kidney, blood or heart disorders. Ideal candidates for laser liposuction are people who are not obese and are in otherwise good health, but simply have certain areas of their bodies that dont respond to diet or exercise. A combination of laser assisted liposuction and traditional liposuction is sometimes used for people who are obese or very overweight.

Does Laser Liposuction Last?

Laser liposuction is considered semi-permanent, which means while it does permanently dissolve the fat at the time of the procedure, if the client regains weight, fat may return to the treated area. Therefore, a healthy combination of diet and exercise is highly-recommended after a laser assisted liposuction procedure.
